Accounting services for importers and exporters in Turkey

For a trading company every shipment runs through several records: contract, invoice, customs declaration, warehouse, bank and lira-denominated ledgers. RelocationTR works with your SMMM accountant and customs broker to reconcile them, account for exchange differences and assess in advance how each shipment may be treated for VAT (KDV).

    Discuss the scope

    Typical situations

Trading companies usually contact us when:

    • The invoice amount, customs value and bank payment differ and nobody has reconciled them.
    • Export sales grow but the accountant is unsure which records support the export.
    • Trade is in dollars or euros, reporting is in lira, and exchange differences are unexplained.
    • The broker, warehouse and accountant work in silos and documents get lost between them.
    • A bank asks about a shipment and the payment cannot be linked to the declaration quickly.

    Document flow

Each shipment needs a chain of records whose numbers and amounts agree:

    • Contract and delivery terms (Incoterms) that match the actual logistics.
    • Commercial invoice, packing list and transport documents.
    • Import or export customs declaration from the broker.
    • Goods received or dispatched records and an e-invoice where required.
    • Bank statements with payment references that tie back to the invoice.

    Accounting tasks

The work centres on reconciliation, not just posting entries:

    • Reconcile invoices, customs declarations, stock and payments shipment by shipment.
    • Agree with the accountant which costs (freight, insurance, duties) form part of inventory cost.
    • Account for foreign-currency settlements and exchange differences under an agreed method.
    • Review the likely VAT treatment with the accountant before shipping; the final treatment is decided on the facts.
    • Assemble export document packs for the accounts and the bank.

    Deliverables

    An agreed scope usually includes:

    • A shipment register linking invoice, declaration, stock movement and payment.
    • A list of mismatches with causes and owners for correction.
    • An explanation of exchange differences for the period.
    • Shipment document packs ready for bank enquiries.

What we need to get started

    For an initial assessment:

    • Supplier and customer countries, currencies and typical delivery terms.
    • Shipments per month and the broker's role.
    • A few sample shipments with their full document sets.
    • Who keeps the books now and any questions already raised by a bank or the tax office.

    Who is responsible for what

The customs broker handles clearance; the SMMM accountant keeps the books and files returns. RelocationTR aligns documents and deadlines between them and reports to the owner. Tax treatment depends on the facts of each shipment; we do not promise blanket exemptions.

    Not included

    Unless agreed separately:

    • Customs clearance or representation before customs.
    • Tariff classification and duty rate determination.
    • A standalone sanctions opinion on goods or counterparties.
    • VAT refund applications as a separate procedure.

    Pricing factors

There are no fixed rates; the fee reflects the workload:

    • Shipments and counterparties per month.
    • Number of currencies and banks.
    • Own warehouse or third-party storage.
    • Current shipments only, or a review of past periods.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is every export VAT-exempt?
Do not assume a general rule. Treatment depends on the type of supply, the documents and whether conditions are met. The accountant assesses it on the facts of each transaction.
Why does the customs value differ from the invoice?
Customs value may include or exclude freight and insurance and may use a different exchange rate. The difference should be explained with documents, not by changing one of the figures.
Will you work with our broker?
Yes. We agree with your broker and accountant which documents are passed on and when, so that shipment data reconciles.
